Nintendo Switch 2 Might Support Backward Compatibility, Industry Insider Leaks More Details

According to industry insider Nate the Hate, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will likely support backward compatibility. Nate, known for accurately leaking information before official announcements, responded to a Reddit post speculating that the Switch 2 had entered production by stating, “It supports backward compatibility.”

Nintendo is expected to unveil its next console by March 31, 2025, within the current fiscal year. While the company has yet to comment on future hardware features like backward compatibility, accessory manufacturer Mobapad claimed earlier this year that Nintendo’s next-gen console would support both physical and digital games from previous systems.

Last month, reports suggested that developers were informed the new console wouldn’t be released until after April 2025. However, David Gibson, a senior research analyst at MST Financial, indicated in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Nintendo’s manufacturing partner, Hosiden, has provided financial guidance hinting at a possibly earlier release.

Gibson noted, “No one seems to have noticed that Nintendo’s assembler, Hosiden, is investing ¥2 billion in production equipment and ¥1 billion in automation for its main client, Nintendo, in fiscal year 2025. I still expect news in September, with a next-gen system release by March 2025.”
