The highly anticipated action RPG Black Myth: Wukong, developed by Chinese studio Game Science, was released on August 20, 2024, for PS5 and PC, with a simultaneous global launch. However, the Xbox version of the game has been delayed due to internal quality issues, sparking widespread speculation about technical challenges and possible exclusivity agreements.
A Microsoft spokesperson recently addressed the delay in an interview with Forbes, stating: “As we’ve previously mentioned, we’re excited for the release of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platform. While we can’t comment on agreements between partners and other platform holders, we can confirm that the delay is not related to any limitations of the Xbox platform.”
There had been rumors that the delay might be due to difficulties in porting the game to the less powerful Xbox Series S, a challenge that has affected other game releases, such as the highly anticipated Baldur’s Gate 3. However, Xbox has officially denied this claim. Game Science had already clarified in a June statement that the postponement was to further optimize the Xbox Series X|S version to meet their quality standards.
